Abstract

This writing examines early aspects of the design process and shows how reconceptualization and reframing can lead to innovative thinking and design. Choices instructional designers make at the dawn of a problem can lead to diverse and more effective solutions for learning, a design that goes beyond a mechanical routinized solution. Examples from art history and from the author’s own class illustrate the application of the concept of reframing. Essential to a creative design process is a conscious use of framing as part of a design methodology.
